Jessie Reyez - "I Do"
Thursday, January 17, 2019
Kacey Musgraves - "Space Cowboy"
I know my place, and it ain't with you
Sunsets fade, and love does too
Yeah, we had our day in the sun
When a horse wants to run, there ain't no sense in closing the gate
You can have your space, cowboy

Dixie Chicks - "Cowboy Take Me Away"
Sadly cowboys are not my thing. That makes singing along to the chorus a little weird... but the rest of the song more than makes up for it.
"I said I wanna touch the earth
I wanna break it in my hands
I wanna grow something wild and unruly
Oh it sounds so good to me"

Court Yard Hounds - "Sunshine"
Court Yard Hounds consist of two sisters who also happen to play in the Dixie Chicks. I don't like Emily's voice over Natalie's, but the lyrics and melody make this song actually on par with Dixie Chicks music.
Someday you'll be up on your mountain
High above the clouds where you can never be found
But you start a fire just to beg for intervention
You like the drama and attention, God forbid we bring you down

Dixie Chicks - "The Long Way Around"
Well, I fought with a stranger and I met myself
I opened my mouth and I heard myself
It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself
Guess I could have made it easier on myself
But I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow
Well, I never seem to do it like anybody else
Maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle down
If you ever want to find me I can still be found
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around

This is looking like a contest,
Of who can act like they care less,
But I liked it better when you were on my side.

If you said you'd rather love than fight.
So many things that you wish I knew,

You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now
If only you had seen what you know now then

When everything out of reach, someone bigger brought down to you
Wasn't it beautiful runnin' wild 'til you fell asleep
Before the monsters caught up to you?

25. Favorite Taylor Swift lyric and its influence on your life.
As simple as it is, this was the performance that made me take her seriously as a musician. My life was forever changed after that performance. I was struck with lightning watching the emotions unfold, hearing the lyrics and realizing - holy shit, this girl gets my soul. It was the first song I ever learned on an instrument (besides like Mary Had a Little Lamb...) and my passion for her songs drove me to learn more and more! I went from being able to play nothing (except Mary Had a Little Lamb on the violin) to playing the bass, the guitar, the ukulele and the banjo - although this isn't my favorite song to play anymore, I'll never forget this scene during the performance when she holds hands with the girls in the crowd.

Norma Tanega - "You're Dead"
I heard this song in the intro credits for this hilarious movie with my beloved, Jemaine Clement. So funny. If you haven't watched it, go watch it now! You won't regret it no matter what kind of film you like.

Gabrielle Aplin - "Puzzle Piece"
"'Cause I can't take it all in all at the same time
It comes like a flood that swallows you alive
But suddenly it'll cut you free
And point you to an empty space
'Cause my everythings just a puzzle piece
Of what is actually happening, actually happening here"

Gabrielle April - "Keep Walking"
"But all that glitters is not gold
From the bruises flowers grow
I feel so much better now you’re not around
There’s no one to kick me while I’m down
No one to burn my bridges anymore
So keep on walking
‘Cause I’m not here to make you feel good
To dry up your tears and apologise for you
I feel so much better now you’re not around
So keep on walking out"

The Tallest Man on Earth - "King of Spain"
"And I wear my boots of Spanish leather
Oh while I'm tightening my crown.
I'll disappear in some flamenco
Perhaps I'll reach the other side.
Why are you stabbing my illusion?
Just cause I stole some eagle's wings
Because you named me as your lover
Well, I thought I could be anything."
The Head and the Heart - "Rivers and Roads"
"Nothing is as it has been
And I miss your face like Hell
And I guess it's just as well
But I miss your face like Hell
Been talking 'bout the way things change
And my family lives in a different state
And if you don't know what to make of this
Then we will not relate"
